What is an Emergency Services District (ESD)

Hardin County Emergency District 6 is a political subdivision of Hardin County that collects ad valorem taxes on all real property located within the district and collects a 2 percent sales tax outside the city limits of Silsbee.

The Hardin County Commissioners appoint five commissioners to serve on the ESD Board of Directors. This board governs the Silsbee Volunteer Fire Department, and the VFD Fire Chief, Robin Jones, acts as a liaison to the board.

The current tax rate of all real property located within HCESD No. 6 is $0.026953 per hundred dollars valuation.

Last year, the ad valorem tax rate was \$0.028438 per \$100 valuation.

Two years ago, the ad valorem tax rate was \$0.03 per \$100 valuation.
